What to expect

Historic Swiss farmhouses, crafts demos and farm animals across a wooded Brienz valley site.

Curator note

Allow 4–5 hours for a relaxed visit — large open-air site with farm animals, crafts and playgrounds. Season mid-April to early November, daily 10am–5pm. Bus from Brienz or Brünig to West/Ost entrances; West stop is closest. Book day tickets online for 10% off (not on combination tickets). West side (Hofstetten) is gentler for wheelchairs — ask for the “Ballenberg à la Carte” map at West Entrance. Museum train included in admission.

Early access. Coverage is currently limited to selected Swiss cantons.

Good to know before you go

Especially good for ages: 3–12 years · all ages welcome
Dogs: Dogs welcome on a short lead, free of charge — not allowed inside buildings where food is handled (guide and assistance dogs excepted). Robbidog bag dispensers across the site.
Inside: West side (Hofstetten) has gentler slopes and more wheelchair-accessible buildings — ask for the “Ballenberg à la Carte” map at West Entrance.
Wheelchair access: Two all-terrain electric wheelchairs (CHF 25/day) at West Entrance — reserve ahead. Ballenberg train rides included in admission. Four accessible toilets (West and East entrances, behind Degen restaurant, East Midlands).
Food: Multiple Gasthäuser on site (Alter Bären, Degen, Wilerhorn, Osteria, circus snack wagon).
